Vibration Studies

Screening and Preliminary Analysis

Our first service provides a preliminary assessment of the line route to identify potentially affected buildings from the induced vibrations. For those, the peak vibration velocity is analytically forecasted and compared to the legal threshold. All the information is given via report.

Detailed Analysis 

The analysis developed to conduct detailed studies by predicting the vibration field which will be induced by a train/metro passage. For that, a special numerical model, developed by NOVIB Engineers, is used to simulate the vehicle, track system, and geological-geotechnical conditions. This service allows a wide range of studies, namely:


•    Predicting the impact on an existing building with the operation of a new line;
•    Predicting the vibration levels inside a building that will be constructed near a line;
•    Assess the vehicle impact on the vibration field induced;
•    Assess the track system impact on the vibration field induced;
•    Help the design of mitigation measures to be adopted either in the track system or in the soil.

Advanced analysis

Our most specialized analysis was developed for the cases where structures with singular designs need to be studied. For these, a FEM realistic numerical modelation of the structure is conducted and further coupled to the numerical model developed by NOVIB. By doing so high accuracy predictions of the vibration levels expected inside the building can be performed.
